Complaints and Appeals Procedure

If You Receive a Vignette Fine

  1. Do not ignore the fine notice. Ignoring it will result in escalation and higher penalties.
  2. Review the fine notice carefully. Note the date, time, location, and alleged offence.
  3. If you believe the fine is incorrect, gather evidence: purchase receipt, digital vignette confirmation, photos of your windscreen sticker.
  4. File an objection (Einspruch) with the issuing authority within two weeks of receiving the notice.
  5. Address your objection to the authority named on the fine notice (typically the local Bezirkshauptmannschaft or Magistrat).
  6. Include your full name, address, vehicle registration, and all supporting evidence.
  7. Keep copies of all correspondence.
  8. If your objection is rejected, you may appeal to the Landesverwaltungsgericht (Administrative Court of the relevant federal state).
